What does airtight house mean?<\/strong><\/p>\n

An airtight house is a house with no air filtrations.<\/span>
\n<\/span>That means your house is sealed so you don\u2019t lose the heat (nor cooling) that you\u2019re producing inside.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m sure you\u2019re familiar with the concept of waterproofing.
\nThen airtight is the concept of being airproofed (I’m not sure this word exist, I\u2019m sure it helps you get the point).<\/span><\/p>\n

Once the concept is clear there are two remaining points you need to understand.
\n<\/span>On one hand, how does the passive simulator measure this?.
\nOn the other hand, how to build an airtight house.<\/span><\/p>\n

How does the simulator insert Airtightness value?<\/strong><\/p>\n

First, the passive simulator doesn\u2019t calculate the airtightness value.
\nInstead it assumes the value of the final construction airtightness. So at the end of the construction of your house you\u2019ll need to do a Blower Door Test (<\/span>more details and price in the post Blower Door Test<\/span>). For now you just need to know that if your house doesn\u2019t pass this final test, then, your house cannot be certified. So it\u2019s not a neither a passive house nor a positive house.<\/span><\/p>\n

OMG, right?
\nSo after all the effort you\u2019ve put into it, if the builder doesn\u2019t build in the right way, then you\u2019ll never be able to have the passive house quality stamp.
\n<\/span>Yes, that\u2019s right, if your builder doesn\u2019t do it right, you\u2019re screwed.<\/span><\/p>\n
