{"id":6951,"date":"2018-08-08T08:36:04","date_gmt":"2018-08-08T06:36:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/era.archi\/?p=6951"},"modified":"2023-02-07T14:47:28","modified_gmt":"2023-02-07T13:47:28","slug":"rectified-thermoclay-house-what-is-it-how-much-does-it-cost-e-m2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/era.archi\/en\/rectified-thermoclay-house-what-is-it-how-much-does-it-cost-e-m2\/","title":{"rendered":"Rectified thermoclay house (what is it?, how much does it cost \u20ac\/m2?)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you want to build your house of rectified thermoclay?<\/p>\n<p>Have you heard something about houses made with thermoclay, but the information you find is not sufficiently clear and synthesized?<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t know where to start?<\/p>\n<p>In this post we explain the basic notions in design, architecture, construction and prices of houses made with ECOrec rectified thermoclay.<\/p>\n<p>In case you still don&#8217;t know us, let me introduce our studio: we&#8217;re ERA architects, the English speaking green architecture studio to call in Barcelona.<br \/>\nActually, I&#8217;m Esther Rovira, an architect in Barcelona and a passive house designer for new sustainable builds and big green renovations in Barcelona and Catalonia.<br \/>\nIn this post you&#8217;ll find all the essentials from our professional point of view.<br \/>\nI hope this helps you!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is thermoclay?<\/strong><br \/>\nThermoclay is a system and construction material based on low-density ceramic blocks and thicker than conventional brick.<br \/>\nIt is used as an alternative to bricks or concrete blocks due to its greater insulation and breathability.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the difference between rectified thermoclay and normal thermoclay?<\/strong><br \/>\nRectified thermoclay are ceramic blocks fired and cut on both sides with special discs to leave them perfectly flat and parallel on both sides.<br \/>\nThis innovation has a tolerance of +\/- 0.5 mm, guaranteeing the quality of the adherent surface.<br \/>\nIn short, a perfect ceramic block ready for assembly with a fine 1 mm mortar joint.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ADVANTAGE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>light<\/li>\n<li>thermal insulation (thermal conductivity = 0.24W\/mK)<\/li>\n<li>high fire resistance (up to class A1)<\/li>\n<li>acoustic insulation (Ra(dBA): 50 Ratr (dBA): 47 Rw(dB): 51)<\/li>\n<li>low thermal conductivity (0.24 W\/m\u00baK)<\/li>\n<li>high adhesion (0.15 N\/mm2)<\/li>\n<li>regulates the diffusion of humidity (regulates humidity and condensation better than normal concrete but to a lesser extent than<\/li>\n<li>wood, which is highly breathable)<\/li>\n<li>free of chemicals (100% natural raw material)<\/li>\n<li>clean and fast app<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>DISADVANTAGES<\/strong><br \/>\nBoth normal and rectified thermoclay are fantastic systems for making simple, very conventional houses with small windows and a box-like design.<br \/>\nAnother key drawback is that thermoclay requires a wide variety of highly specialized parts, tools, and gadgets. In the end, it is a fairly technical system.<br \/>\nWhen you depend on the technification of the material or the system, the most advisable thing is to go to the best installer certified by the supplier.<br \/>\nUnfortunately, the reality of thermoclay works is that the inexperienced (and cheaper) trowel ends up doing this placement.
