\nRadon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive natural gas that travels through air and water.
\nIt is created by disintegrating elements present in the uranium that are in rocks and underground waters.
\nLong and continuous exposure to radon gas can lead to lung cancer (possible relationships with childhood leukemia have also been studied).<\/p>\n
\nRadon gas from the ground enters buildings through cracks or pipes that have not been treated to be watertight (especially in basements).
\nRadon gas stays inside our home, school or office (especially in winter if we do not ventilate) and maximizes our daily exposure to this gas.
\nFor most people, the greatest potential for exposure to radon gas is in their homes.<\/p>\n
\nIn some towns of Catalonia radon gas can be present in high quantities (below I leave you the list of municipalities in Catalonia affected by radon gas).
\nThere are 2 areas with a potential radon gas that is harmful to health: zone I and zone II.
\nZone II is the most damaging.
\n(If the municipality of your house or land is not on this list, you are not obliged to apply any protection to your house).<\/p>\n
\nIf your land or house is on the list of towns in Catalonia with radon gas, the CTE (Technical Construction Code) requires you to have special protection (even in renovations or extensions).
\nThis means that in order to be granted the building license, you must apply the solutions required by the CTE.
\nThis regulation was approved in December 2019, it is quite new and not many construction companies or architects are aware of this obligation.<\/p>\n
\nIf your land is in zone I (300-400Bq \/ m3), simply place a protection barrier on the floor.
\nIf it is in zone II (> 400Bq \/ m3) you must apply this protection plus a sanitary slab.
\nIn the case of existing houses, you can seal the floor on the inside and improve ventilation with controlled mechanical ventilation systems or by opening the windows.<\/p>\n![\"gas](\"https:\/\/era.archi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/gas-radon-en-casa-solucion-1024x256.jpg\")

\nIn the case of new construction, you will improve your health in many other ways if you insert a sanitary slab, apply an interior tightness line and install controlled dual flow mechanical ventilation.
\nAlso choose an architect and builder who is up to date with radon gas regulations to avoid surprises when processing your license.
\nIn the case of having an existing house in one of the affected areas, ask your architect to do a radon gas test and a pre-study to be able to solve these affectations.<\/p>\n
