In this post we explain the types of roofs and our professional recommendation.
\nIn case you still do not know us, let us introduce ourselves.
\nWe are ERA architect<\/a>s, one of the young, committed and creative architecture studios in Barcelona<\/a>.

What is a roof?<\/strong>
\nIt is the top element of the building.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What are the types of roof?<\/strong>
\nWe are able to classify the types of roof according to:<\/p>\n

STRUCTURE
\nSimple or Composite<\/p>\n

SHAPE
\nFlat or inclined (1 slope, 2 waters, 4 waters, broken or folded)<\/p>\n

USE
\nPassable or not passable<\/p>\n

CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM
\nTraditional or Inverted<\/p>\n

MATERIALS
\nNatural Vegetables (straw, wood, cane, plants) or Minerals (gravel, earth, abode)
\nArtificial (slate tiles, ceramics, cement, metal panels, glass, rubber or plastic)<\/p>\n

What is the most recommendable roof type?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It depends on location, climate and also on the program of the building and its integrated insertion in the environment.<\/p>\n

Even so, in ERA architects<\/a> we recommend the inverted flat roof combining practicable areas with low maintenance local pre-cultivated vegetation.<\/p>\n

I imagine this will sound very complex for that reason we are going to develop this description a bit more:<\/p>\n

Flat roof is the roof that with a minimum slope of 2-8% is able to stay waterproof and repel rain water to go inside.
\nInverted roof means it has a thermal insulation layer that protects the waterproof textile. Therefore condensations, dilatation, cracks and aggression on the waterproof layer are minimized or eliminated. It is also better protected and its maintenance is more comfortable.
\nA practicable roof is a great idea to have a using terrace to make barbecue with friends.
\nA green roof has green areas with plants and vegetation. There are many types of green roof systems and types of vegetation to use.
\nBoth of this last options need to be specified on an early stage of the project, so we can calculate the loads to design a proper structure.<\/p>\n

In our Architecture studio in Barcelona<\/a> ERA architects<\/a>, our main goal is the total success of the project and the construction works. For this reason we recommend inverted flat roofs.<\/p>\n
